Baby steps…

Did some minor work today:

The author of Math::GMPz has already responded with a patch for the Makefile.PL and I will re-run the test suite tomorrow (perhaps after a reboot… I think this is necessary).  I’ll get some feedback from my mentor about the first part of the algorithm, and hopefully we’ll get some tests in place to make sure it’s functioning.  Speaking of tests, let me get a rant in about tests and documentation.  Probably the two most hated parts of programming for the programmer, but definitely the two most necessary.  Yes, you’ve heard it from ideologues elsewhere and probably done more eloquently, but I felt the need to repeat it.  Documenting the functions – win.  Documenting the algorithm – big win.  A test suite that covers all of the functionality of the program – win.  A test suite that gives back helpful answers – big win.   Put simply, if ya don’t know where you’re going don’t be surprised that you don’t get there;  write documentation and tests first.
